WASHINGTON, D.C. — American photojournalist James Wright Foley, who was kidnapped in Syria nearly two years ago, has been beheaded by the Islamic State in "a message to America" for its involvement in the crisis by carrying out airstrikes against the jihadists, according to a video released on Tuesday.
Directly addressing U.S. President Barack Obama in the 4-minute video, a jihadist standing next to Foley in the desert said any attempt to "deny Muslims their right of living in safety under the Islamic caliphate will result in the bloodshed of your people." The jihadist then starts to decapitate the photojournalist, who is kneeling down.
In the next scene, the jihadist is standing next to another man the video identified as Steven Joel Sotloff. "The life of this American citizen, Obama, depends on your next decision," the unidentified man said.
